A babel-documentary theatre play in 8 languages – read in public for the first time:
The wide world comes together in a former horse stable, a real place for refugees in rural Lower Saxony. In grotesque situations, the play searches for humanity in less than human places and uses music and current news from the residents' countries to bring the world a little closer together in all its differences.
The author of this play, Elina Mnatsian, had to leave her home country of Russia in 2022 due to the political situation and found herself in a refugee camp in a former horse stable in Lower Saxony with people from all over the world. Some of them had just arrived, others had been in this place for years. In this unplannable, unpredictable ‘in-between world’, where there is little to do, she began to write her next play: she observed and conducted conversations with her fellow residents with the help of translation apps and created a form of multilingual theatre text.
The play made it onto the current shortlist of the independent Russian festival → LUBIMOVKA, which for current political reasons only takes place outside Russia.
The THEATER AN DER GLOCKSEE is bringing the highly topical text to the stage for the first time in a staged reading, with multilingual actors and German and English surtitles.
